5 Actions to "Restore Our World" on Earth Day

Güncelleme tarihi: 22 Kas 2021

Writing about sustainability in the textile industry has been my passion for a long time and I focus on it 365 days a year.

So I'm always on the lookout for innovative brands that try to do things a little bit better. But in early March every year, emails are coming from brands wishing to mention their upcoming collections in honor of April 22nd, Earth Day: branded T-shirts made from organic cotton, hoodies made from recycled plastic and cotton, and sunglasses made from bio-based polymers. Similar sentences on these clothes.

"Every day is Earth Day .."

Last year, a friend of mine, trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible, bought one of these t-shirts.

He told me that he thought that this way people would learn that that day was Earth Day and that it would contribute to spreading the awareness of sustainability.

Isn't that how beautiful?

During a speech last week, when I asked if you bought a world day t-shirt, he said that he didn't wear it at all and sold it in an app that sold second-hand clothes.

Brands make certain collections every year for special occasions. While sustainability has become an important strategy lately, for apparel brands, Earth Day, Water Day, Recycling Day, etc. Creating collections is a great time to show awareness of sustainability. Consumers buy these clothes to show their sustainability awareness. That week, that outfit is worn, an Instagram photo is taken #theworlddayeveryday #theworldday #restoreourworld it is shared with tags. Probably the east journey continues to the back of the closet to be worn again, eventually sold or discarded.

Do you think the Earth on Earth Day needs a t-shirt with the "Everyday Earth Day" print?

Do you want to be prepared for the world? Let's talk about what we can do every day, not that day...

1-) Stop consuming!

Take the Earth Day T-shirt out of your digital cart. Instead, maybe you can write textiles on a t-shirt you don't want to use anymore.

Or you can make a world out of waste fabric and sew it onto your t-shirt.

So you can have an Earth Day t-shirt just for you :)

2-) The biggest benefit you can do to the world: Planting Trees!

Trees are our greatest protectors against climate change. Do not forget to pay attention to the place you plant and the type of sapling. The sapling you planted is now your responsibility and protect it until it catches!

3-) Follow the Earth Day site.

3-day climate action will be held on 20-22 April and hundreds of activists, world leaders, non-governmental organizations such as WWF will participate. It's the perfect time to find out what is happening in the world and what we can do!

You can also subscribe to the site, find organizations where you can volunteer in the climate movement, learn about Earth Day's history, or use the budget you have allocated for T-shirts to donate.

Did you know that about 20 million people attended the first Earth Day celebrations on April 22, 1970, many conferences and symposiums were held, drawing attention to environmental problems, and the USA's first 'Clean Air Law' and 'Clean Water Laws' were prepared?

4-) Organize a world day event with your kids.

Together you can plant flowers, prepare compost, repair a toy instead of buying a new toy. Try transforming a worn-out item into something else. If you cannot transform it, thank your child for that item and learn the way that it can be disposed of with the least harm to nature.

Combine and celebrate April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children's Day with Earth Day. The greatest gift you can give children is to leave them a clean world.

5-) Be a part of the change!

There are many changes that we can make in our daily lives, from cycling to work, cooking vegan, planting trees and shortening your shower time. Find out your water and carbon footprint. Be a part of the change but also be a pioneer!

Earth Day is considered by more than a billion people each year as the largest secular ceremony in the world, celebrated as a day of action to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes.
